Follow That Star!!

I have exciting news for all of you- Christmas is just 1 week away! Can you believe it?! This week we are going to spend some time reflecting on the birth of Jesus. It is important to remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place! Especially this year when it might look a little bit different than it has in the past.

Today we will hear the story of the 3 wise men found in Matthew 2:9-12.

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The wise men followed the star and it led them to JESUS! The long awaited saviour who brought HOPE and PEACE to our world.

Flash forward to the very last page of the Bible. Revelation 22:16.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Notice what Jesus calls himself? A Star!! The bright Morning Star. As the wise men made their difficult journey- through the valleys, the bumpy roads, the obstacles- they may have grown weary and wanted to quit. But they didn't. They kept their eyes on the star and kept on going. If we keep our eyes on The bright Morning Star (Jesus) He will lead us and guide our steps through every valley, bumpy road, or obstacle that we face. Just like the Bethlehem star did for the wisemen.
